At the age of 14, I witnessed the debate in the run-up to the 2005 Dutch referendum on the EU Constitutional Treaty. Painfully confronted with the Dutch and the French ‘no’s’, the EU entered the so-called ‘constitutional crisis’. However, it is this critical period in EU history that politicized me as it triggered my interest in the question of democracy in Europe. It has been the guiding thread throughout my bachelor (Liberal Arts & Science) and master studies (Philosophy). Furthermore, through my work for AEGEE / European Students’ Forum, notably as Vice-President & External Relations Director in the International Board of 2016-2017, I have been able to contribute actively to the empowerment of young people to become active and critical European citizens, the building blocks of a sustainable European construction. I was also involved in the organisation of AEGEE’s ECI ‘More Than Education – Shaping Active and Responsible Citizens’. By joining The ECI Campaign, I have taken my passion for democracy in Europe to the next level.
As EU Democracy Campaigner for The ECI Campaign, I am in charge of the organisation’s advocacy activities in Brussels, as well as for fundraising, external relations and communications.
